Abeba Teshale shares the the story of her migration from Ethiopia to Canada in 1983-84, just after finishing high school. Teshale describes how she was forced to leave because of instability in Ethiopia. Her family sent her first to Italy where the church provided them with food and shelter. Tehale also explains the Canadian immigration process, including sponsoring her siblings, and the cultural differences between Ethiopia and Canada. She discusses her experiences living in cities across Canada, with a focus on apartment-hunting, her first jobs, and the difficulties and dangers immigrants face with little English and understanding of Canadian culture and customs.
